Network Marketing Intent

What is your intent in building your network marketing business?

Is it to make a lot of money? To be able to spend more time at home with your family? We’ve all heard the reasons that people build their own home-based business.

I like to think about intent. I’m also a massage therapist and very interested in energy healing. When you do that kind of work it is all about your intent. It guides your every movement when you are working with a client in that environment.

Intent is just as important when you are sharing your network marketing business opportunity with a prospect. What is your intent? Is it to get them to sign up so that you can make more money? Or is it because you know your prospect is in a difficult spot and you want to offer a way out?

I offer my opportunity because I want people to know that they have options. Yes, I do need to make money to support my family but I have other options if that was my only goal. I believe that it is wrong for people to be stuck in a job they hate or have to desperately search for a new job if they lose their job.

The main reason that I started my business was because I wanted to be home with my family. I have two small kids I want to be around as they grow up. My daughter started kindergarten last year and I was able to drive her to and from school every day. That meant a lot to both of us. That probably isn’t the reason my prospect would want to start a business. So, when we share our network marketing opportunity with other people we need to know where they are and where they want to be and only offer the opportunity if it serves as a possible solution. Otherwise we are just wasting time, both their time and our own.

Understanding Network Marketing

People seem to have a hard time understanding network marketing.

I was poking around on Google this morning checking out different keywords for the products from my network marketing company and found a lady who was trying to liquidate her product. She said she signed up one night and the next morning realized that the business is more about recruiting than about selling and helping people.

That’s just nonsense. While recruiting is a part of network marketing, selling product is more important. Product is where the money is, so selling is your primary goal. Recruiting is about finding other interested people to help you sell product. One of the top money earners in  my company describes his business as building distribution channels to move product.

I try to get people to understand that a network marketing business is just like any other business they might start, so here is another way of understanding network marketing. Let’s say you start a new business selling something you created, the Miracle Widget, that does something absolutely amazing. You are a business of one person and you are out there talking to everyone about your product. You can only talk to so many people and change their lives with you widget when you are all by yourself, so you bring on another person to help spread the word. Now you talk reach twice as many people, selling your product to them and helping them. This feels good, so your bring on more people. Your focus is still selling your product and helping people, and now you have help.

That’s what network marketing is about. You start off as a team of one telling people about your MLM’s amazing product then bring on more interested people so that you can reach more people. You are still selling product and helping people. You are also helping the people who join your team by offering them a way to earn money too.

Some uplines will over-stress the recruiting side of network marketing, that’s true. Please remember that it is really about selling product and helping people and that recruiting is just about getting some friends to help expand your reach so that you can help more.

I hope you found this helpful. Please share your thoughts in a comment below and share this with your followers out on the social networks.

Where will You be in 5 Years?

That’s a popular question during job interviews and annual reviews. Where do you want to be in 5 years?

The way things have been going for the past year or so, many businesses just hope to still be around in 5 years.  A lot of them are downsizing right now trying to hold on, which leaves a lot of people out of working wondering how they are going to make ends meet.

There is one industry I know of that is expanding right now. Network marketing. The heck with trying to get a new job. That just puts you back in the same situation you were before you got let go, wondering when and if it’s going to happen again.

The thing is, this is the perfect time to get into network marketing, and not just because there are so many people looking for a job. People are also looking for better, more cost effective ways to stay healthy. People are looking for ways to be in control of their lives for the first time in a long time. The right network marketing business can offer than.

I’m with one company that is growing like wildfire right now, and it isn’t one of those fly-by-night businesses. This company is celebrating its 35 anniversary this year. It is in the wellness industry, so it may be the answer to some of the health issues you have been facing too.

There are a lot of MLM companies out there that claim that they offer the one key to good health, usually some form of nutritional supplement drink or energy drink. The truth is though, there isn’t just one key. What works for one person might not work for someone else. I only know of a small number of companies that offer a variety of solutions to increase the chances of having something that will work for nearly everyone.

I will be honest with you. Unlike what a lot of people try to tell you, network marketing probably isn’t going to get you rich over night. It might take several months, or even a year to start making some real money. A lot of people never make any real money, but that’s mostly because they give up after they see that it takes work to build a real business, and this is as real a business as running a restaurant. The benefit is that you don’t need a lot of money to start and you don’t have the huge overhead costs.

So, where will you be in 5 years? Working a job wondering day to day whether you will go back tomorrow, or building you own successful business?

For more information, find out about working with me.

Nikken, Why I Got Started

There are literally a ton of network marketing companies out there, at least one that is perfect for anyone who wants to get involved in building their own business. So, why did I choose Nikken?

When I was introduced to Nikken I wasn’t looking for a network marketing business. I didn’t really know what network marketing was although I had of course heard Tupperware, Amway, Avon, and a few others. I had just finished massage school, which I started because I was in an IT job that I absolutely could not stand. Before I finished massage school I quit that job and started a new one that was a lot better, which is good because it takes a while to start up a business.

My wife and I were going to start a massage business because we wanted to do something that really helped people. I also wanted control of my own life. I wanted to set my own hours and work when I wanted to because I had two small kids that I wanted to help raise.

Anyway, I had just finished massage school and read in a book that people should sleep on a magnetic mattress pad. I asked a massage therapist, Greg, that my wife worked with ( he specialized in energy healing ) what he knew about magnets.  He responded by inviting us to a meeting at someone else’s house that weekend. Having no idea what we were in for, we went. It was a Wellness Home Preview, which is what Nikken people call their in-home opportunity meetings.

Nikken is all about magnets, sleep, water filtration, air filtration, nutritional supplements, and the like. It immediately made sense to have a product line that complemented the service we were going to offer our clients. Also, it turns out that massage is very time and labor intensive. To make a reasonable income I still wasn’t going to have the time freedom that I wanted. I saw that network marketing could offer what I wanted if I could figure out how to make it work for me.

After that meeting we borrowed a magnetic mattress pad and a magnetic necklace and used them for a week. Neither my wife nor I had any big sleep problems but we thought we should try it out and see what happened. I found the pad very firm but I fell asleep immediately and had the best night’s sleep I’d had in a long time. I liked it.

We returned the mattress pad and necklace, then joined the ranks of Nikken distributors. For the first two years we were effectively wholesale customers as we used the product but didn’t do much with the business. I guess that made us typical network marketers. Then we were ready to do the business.

We have decided to stick with Nikken for a number of reasons. Most important to me is to have the time to spend with my family and the freedom to move that time anywhere in the day when something comes up for us to do together. Any network marketing business will provide that freedom, especially when you learn to do it online.

If you remember, we wanted to start a massage business because we wanted to help people. There are many MLM companies in the wellness field, but most of them only offer some form of nutritional supplement or energy drink. We have learned through our on-going studying that wellness is a whole lot more than the amount of nutrition that enters the mouth. All of the systems in the body have to work properly. In addition to good nutrition it requires hydration, pH balance, relaxation, muscle movement, good sleep, and the ability to effectively handle invaders. Nikken talks about the Wellness Home because our environment is a big influence on our wellness. What it really comes down to is the environment that each individual cell lives in that determines our overall wellness. Unlike most of the other companies I’ve seen, Nikken understands that and has products that address most of those areas.

So, there you have it. I’m in network marketing because it allows me the time to be with my family. I’m with Nikken because they understand wellness and provide the technologies to address much more than just one aspect of it. It allows me to take good care of myself and my family, and I can help other people.

Mike Klingler Understands Internet Marketing

Mike Klingler hosted an amazing webinar last month about how to create a marketing funnel for people involved in Internet Marketing. He is one of the very few people I have seen involved in Internet Marketing who understands both the importance of a marketing funnel and how to put one together to so that it actually generates income.

If you are marketing a business online, whether it is a traditional, affiliate, or MLM business, then  you really need to check out his Market Funnel Mastery course that he is teach over the next several months. He has extended his special offer of giving it away to people who join Renegade Professional for the next few days. If you are just getting started with online marketing or need some help to get it going, you will find the training in Renegade Professional very helpful.

I’ve studied Loral Langemeier’s books and courses for a while and attended some of her live seminars. One of the big points that she teaches is the need for a marketing funnel, or a sales funnel, depending on what you want to call it. Either way, the idea is to interest your prospect with a free or low-cost item to get them into the funnel. Then, through building a trusting relationship with them, you can upsell them to your more expensive products and services. Loral teaches that if you don’t have a sales funnel then you don’t really have a business. This is especially true for Internet Marketers and Mike Klingler gets it. He’s been working this model for a few years now, so this isn’t just some textbook teaching, this is his real life experience.

If you know who Diyana (Didi) Alcheva is, she says this training will shave two years off your learning curve and significantly speed up your business success. Mike Klingler himself calls this training “epic” and that it is the best, most significant training that he has ever put together, and it’s free.

Get it before it’s too late! I’m glad I did.

Nutritional Supplement Regulation

The US Senate has been presented with a bill, Senate Bill 3002, that proposes to have the FDA regulate dietary supplements. I can’t believe that it will be as bad as what this writer says, but it will affect all nutritional supplement companies to some degree if it is passed. Personally, I hope it disappears into the sunset and is never heard from again because I like my supplements.

Fortunately, it won’t affect my network marketing business though. The company I am with, Nikken, does sell nutritional supplements, but they aren’t the primary focus. Actually, I personally sell very little of the supplements. Instead, I focus on what makes my company unique, magnets. There are so many companies out there selling some form of dietary supplement that the market is becoming saturated. There aren’t many other companies in the “magnets for wellness” market though, so I am in good shape with Nikken regardless of what happens.

Is Network Marketing a Viable Business?

Is network marketing a viable business to build and live off of?  Of course it is and many people do.

I have made it very clear to my friends and family that I will quit my full-time corporate job at the end of October to go full-time with my network marketing business with Nikken. It turns out that they didn’t believe me and now that it gets closer they are starting to question me on it.

My father attacked my plans pretty aggressively calling network marketing a pyramid. I was surprised by this coming from him since I have been talking about my plans for a few months already. So, I had to answer the pyramid question again. First of all, Nikken doesn’t qualify legally as a pyramid because I don’t make a penny to recruit people. I only make money when product is sold. As far as the actual structure is concerned, a corporation like he works for and I currently work for is more of a pyramid than network marketing.  In the corporate world I cannot advance up the ladder unless there is an opening available.  In network marketing my rank advances solely on my efforts and doesn’t depend on openings above me. In another perspective, I am a business owner and therefore already at the very top of my company and Nikken is just my supplier.

A friend also called my plans into question. Again, I have been talking about this for a few months and for some reason he responded like this was brand new news. This friend started talking about the security of having a job and having good benefits.  As everyone knows, a job no longer equals security. Companies have been cutting benefits regularly over the past few years to deal with rising health care costs and recently cutting people to deal with the economy. This has been a boon for network marketing recruiters because some of these people who have lost their job are now joining network marketing companies in the hopes of never having to go through unemployment again. There is much more security in having your own business and taking control of your own financial future. He did get one thing right though. A job is very low risk and with low risk you can expect low returns.

I have learned that if you have plans to outgrow your current position then you either need to keep them to yourself or only share them with people who you know will support and encourage you. Another good idea is to increase the amount of time you spend with people who are already where you want to go. With that in mind, I bought plane tickets and made hotel reservations to spend another three days with Loral Langemeier and her team in Chicago for the next Cash Machine Workshop. If you have aspirations to take control of your own future then I would love to see you there. I will be one of the guys wearing a black “staff” shirt. I paid for the first Cash Machine Workshop I went to and it was worth every penny.

Why People Fail in Network Marketing

Many people have tried to build a network marketing business and failed. When they do, they write off network marketing and say that it doesn’t work.

If that’s the case, then why do some people become very successful and wealthy?

I think that the biggest reason is that people treat it more like a hobby than as a business.  In a lot of cases people will get all caught up in the hype of a hotel meeting and join without really understanding what it is that they got themselves into.

So, how can you be successful in network marketing? Treat it like a real business. Create a corporate structure around the business and give your new company a name. This will give you the tax breaks that businesses get and give you more credibility when you talk to people about your product.

The next thing that you need to is create a simple business plan and revenue model. This may seem like a lot of work but it really isn’t, and it is essential to keep you on track. How much money do you need to make?  How much product do you need to sell to reach that goal?  Your business plan and revenue model help you figure that out. If you don’t know how to do this, then get Loral Langemeier‘s book, The Millionaire Maker’s Guide to Creating a Cash Machine for Life or her audio program, Building, Leading, and Protecting Your Business.  They will help you get started.

Now you are in a position to go out and learn to properly market your product and business opportunity. You also have a new language that you can use when you approach new people that you want to join you in your business. Instead of depending on hype, people will join you because you have a sound plan for growing you business.  Your new partners will be more likely to stay with you instead of dropping out because the hype wore off or running to the newest thing to come along.

Glimpses of Network Marketing Truth

If you have been approached about network marketing business opportunities very much, then you have heard a lot of the so-called “lies” of network marketing.  It’s easy, it isn’t selling, the products sell themselves, and so on.

I was at an in-home meeting at my upline’s house recently to listen to the top earner in my company speak about how he got started.  I’m not a big fan of in-home meetings but I’m happy to go when there will be someone that I’d like to hear speak.  Needless to say, they were surprised to see me.

Dave has been with this network marketing company for 18 or 19 years and has been with other companies before that, so he has a lot of experience with network marketing.  He has made about 40 million dollars in that time with our company, so he’s worth listening to.  Here’s what I was able to pick out from what he said.

The first thing he did was acknowledge that we do sell product and our opportunity.  It isn’t sharing and the product doesn’t sell itself.  It’s rare that you hear traditional network marketers admit that we are salespeople.  A soft sell works better than a hard sell long term.

He sells the product by demonstrating it on people.  In out meeting last night he had a hand-full of people come to the front and used a couple of our magnetic products on them to show the benefits they offer.  He also shared stories of other times that he demonstrated the product with amazing results. As you probably already know, stories sell.  He had some really good stories about using the product on people.

The last thing that really stood out to me was that you want to pick a company that has unique products with enough of a margin so that you can make some money.  In other words you don’t want to sell products or services that your customer can pick up at a store just down the road.  With products that are  common, the margin has to be very small for them to be competitive, which means you have to sell a lot more to make money.  When you get into having to sell a lot of volume it will be very difficult to compete with an actual store.

I thought the evening was well worth my time and I was glad to get some good information.  I hope it helps you in your marketing efforts.
